The Cowboys moved on from Mike McCarthy, so Brian Schottenheimer, who was the offensive coordinator, was elevated to head coach and offensive play-caller. In his 12 years as an offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks, he only had one season with a top-16 fantasy tight end, and that was in 2011 with Dustin Keller, who was TE12 in points per game at 10.9 points per game. He’s never had a tight end exceed five touchdowns.

Ferguson will continue to catch passes from Dak Prescott, as he’s done throughout his career. In 2023, Prescott ranked 16th among 41 quarterbacks in short pass accuracy. In 2024, that fell to 41st out of 43 quarters, with backup quarterback Cooper Rush at 43rd. This was a big reason for Ferguson’s drop in yards per route run.
